Interesting topic in Tuesday's tonight Karen!! I know many teachers fear technology still, but I often find it amazing that every teacher doesn't have some sort of web pressence in their classroom.
Karen- when you said, "Wouldn't it be great if you had all your worksheets or activities available to parents and students? Could you imagine how you can eliminate the "dog at my homework" or "I forgot to bring my papers home" tired old excuses? " - ONE thing popped into my head (and those who know me well will know what that was)...GAGGLE!!!! Talk about simple! Through the use of gaggle.net, I"ve been able to maintain MUCH better contact and communication with ALL my kids, supply them with worksheets and other paperwork via my digital locker, remind them of things like tests/assignments and provide online helps (quia games). Getting them involved in conversations via the message boards over content related articles or information.
I promise not to make this a HUGE endorsement for gaggle, but will say this was the simplest way to infuse a small bit of technology into the room. And I would think it would be the easiest way for any teacher. Starting with simple e-mails.
Yes, Karen, in today's classroom, with the type of students we have, I think a web pressence of some sort is necessary to really conect with your kids and reach them where they are.
